Jane B. Ray, 91, of Bedford, Pa., passed away peacefully on Saturday, Sept. 16, 2023, at her home on Egolf Park Rd.
Jane was born in Roaring Spring on May 20, 1932, daughter of the late Levi O. and Myra (Diehl) Burket.
On Aug. 11, 1956, she married her husband, Samuel H. Ray, who preceded her in death on Oct. 31, 2018.
She is survived by daughter, Amy L. Ray, of Bedford; son, Todd C., husband of Holly (Reichart) Ray, of Hummelstown, grandson, Benjamin, husband of Leslie (Miller) Ray, of Gettysburg; granddaughter, Kristen L., wife of Brandon Jones, of Scottsdale, Ariz.; grandson, Chad Ray, of Harrisburg.
Jane was a sweet, humble, selfless, and patient person. She demonstrated the importance of being present in support of family. She took care of herself so she could be there for others. She was kind and listened to others.
Jane’s most cherished moments were spending time with her family. This included boating at the lake, gathering at the cabin, vacationing with the grandchildren to Myrtle Beach and the traditional making of the Ray Family Apple Butter.
Jane always put others before herself and was most concerned about making sure everyone had lots of good food to eat. She welcomed everyone into her home.
Her favorite activities included cooking, arranging flowers, gardening, swimming, spending time outdoors and watching her favorite sports teams.
Jane was employed by the Everett Area School District for 26 years where she taught elementary physical education. She coordinated gym shows and track and field days.
Jane’s faith in God was a priority in her life and was demonstrated each and every day. Jane was a member of the Bedford Methodist Church for over 63 years and helped support many ministries.
A special thank you to Grane Hospice, the caregivers and professionals who provided extraordinary and compassionate care and support in her later years.
Friends will be received on Thursday, Sept. 21, from 10 to 11 a.m. in Wesley Chapel of the Bedford Methodist Church. A funeral service will be held in the xanctuary at 11 a.m. with Jim Miller officiating. Interment will be at Mt. Pleasant Cemetery, Martinsburg.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made to Bedford Methodist Church, 132 E. John St., Bedford PA 15522.
